Can't install or uninstall

Operating system

Windows

Joplin version

3.5.11

What issue do you have?

Right now I'm screwed....
My latest Joplin update was blocked by Windows Defender which must have snuck on my computer with the latest WIN update...
It wouldn't allow an update so I tried and UNINSTALL... windows will not let me complete that either!!!
I don't know what to do???

When I INSTALL… and press FINISH…. i get this

And when I click on the SETUP FILE again…. I get this

UPDATE…. somehow I did a good uninstall
Now I’m afraid to do the INSTALL…

Hi,

Enable system restore points if they're not enabled already and create a new system restore point.

You'll be able to revert back to the previous snapshot which will remove all of the Joplin files.

You can also try installing the software using Microsoft Winget which is Microsoft's package manager.

winget install -e --id Joplin.Joplin

Good idea but it didn’t work…

I’ve had Joplin installed for years…. this only happened with this latest Joplin update and Windows update

There's a possibility that there's some corruption in your registry or probably the hidden apps folder in your home directory.

Here's a suggestion that I highly recommend. It will determine if there's something wrong with your user profile or registry settings.

Create a new user account local account on your computer. Login as that user and try to install joplin that way. It will probably work fine.

If it does then you need to focus your attention on what's corrupt in your profile.

Got the exact same thing under a different user

Can I try an OLDER Joplin install exe and see…. where would I get one???

I had the same issue with the update to 3.5.11. Was able to install it after using PowerShell to unblock the app using the following command:

unblock-file "C:\Users\adj01\Downloads\Joplin-Setup-3.5.11.exe"

Hope it works for you

I’m using win11 25H2

Hi,

Here are the previous releases, and pre-release too.

To download previous versions of Joplin, the most reliable and secure source is the official GitHub repository. Joplin maintains an extensive archive of past releases for desktop and mobile.

1. Desktop (Windows, macOS, and Linux)

The main repository contains all previous versions of the desktop application.

Official Link: on Github

How to find a specific version:

Scroll down through the "Releases" page.

Each release has an Assets dropdown menu at the bottom of its description.

Click Assets to see the downloadable files (e.g., .exe for Windows, .dmg for Mac, .AppImage for Linux).

OKAY, I am SUPER sorry for all this but the problem was PCMatic all the time…
They blocked the setup file and the run exe file in SuperShield and never notified me about it anywhere… PLUS the warnings I was getting were Windows related not PCMatic related.

I got the idea to look when the user above said “unblock file” … I let PCMatic know I was not pleased and probably should just switch to another antivirus…

ANYWAY, thank you all and sorry again
