What issue do you have?
Hello everyone,
We're currently testing Joplin in my company, with the intention of replacing One Note.
However, we are encountering a problem that could prevent us from finalizing this deployment.
When we drag and drop a file or e-mail into a note, a "copy" of the file is created on the server. The solution is to use Alt + Drag to insert only a local link.
The problem lies in the fact that around 500 people will be using the application, and we can't ask all these users to remember to use this combination every time, and, if this isn't done, the storage space used will grow exponentially...
So the crucial question is: Is there a way to make the default action for drag and drop equivalent to the Alt + Drag method?
Thank you in advance for your help.
There is no way to configure this behaviour.
Does OneNote work like that? I'm asking, because the default behaviour in most applications (e.g. e-mail clients, etc.) when using drag and drop seems to be to attach a whole file, not just a link to it.
Hello and thank you for your answer.
Yes, this is the case. Our concern is the following: When a file is inserted into a note, One Note generates a backup of the note including this file. When the file is removed from the note, a new backup is made without the file, so we get the space back. In the tests we carried out on Joplin, when the file is deleted from the note, it still remains in the cache folder and the deletion does not synchronize.
The problem is that the amount of storage is increasing exponentially... I'm sure there's a setting to be made so that files are also deleted from the folder after being deleted from the note, but I haven't found it yet...
The file should still be deleted but only after the note history expires (which, if I remember correctly, is set to 90
days by default). The deletions are also synchronised, however you need to make sure that you're using the newest version of Joplin, as this has been fixed only recently.
