Hi this is the first post to this forum. If violating rules please let me know what to do. Thank you.
Clicked the "delete all my notes and grab from Cloud" button and was syncing my previously created notes on the new device. Some notes were downloaded, yet the folders previously created (on the old device) were gone and there was an error while syncing. Tried two times and it stays the same. Sorry I startled and did not screenshot anything.
Is it because of the encryption? What can I do to have my notes on the device? Many thanks for your help, nice day :)
Some users have reported that Joplin sometimes syncs to the /Apps/Graph folder on OneDrive, instead of the /Apps/Joplin folder. In OneDrive, are both Graph and Joplin folders present in /Apps?
I tried to re-synchronize all the notes and this error occurred. As I remember, this was the same error as the one occurred when the new device was added.
(Sometimes when I sync my notes, this happens too, but then by clicking sync again, the notes successfully sync.)
Do you still have access to the old device to export the missing notes? It's possible that some of the notes on the old device were not correctly synced and don't exist on OneDrive.
Alternatively, I wonder if Microsoft have made some sort of migration from OneDrive to Sharepoint of some of your Joplin files but not others, which has broken access to them via Joplin sync. Although I would have expected Joplin to keep on failing on the same files if that was the case, rather than being successful after clicking sync again.
You could try downloading the Joplin folder on OneDrive as a zip and extracting somewhere. Then create a new profile in Joplin desktop and set up file system sync pointing to the extracted Joplin directory. Then let the complete sync and see if it contains all of the notes you were expecting, or if it is still missing some
Make sure you create a new profile first before doing this (don't use the one that is currently syncing with OneDrive). There is a manage profiles option in the File menu I think, and there you can create a new profile
-In settings, synchronization, select 'File System' from the sychronization target dropdown
-Set the directory to synchronize with to the directory where you extracted the Joplin folder exported from OneDrive
-Click apply and exit the settings screen
-Click the synchronize button
@TMC according to this post, a user managed to fix a very similar sync issue by deleting an encryption key, as they somehow had more than one. If you find there is more than one encryption key and you want to attempt this, please make a jex backup of all your notes first, in case something goes wrong and you can no longer decrypt your notes
The sharepoint error could just be a red herring, as you mentioned it goes away when you try to sync again
Thank you for your instructions. Sorry for replying late. With a jex backup, the notes are in the new device now, and they are syncing with the cloud (deleting notes in the rubbish bin, hopefully).
Could I delete the extracted Joplin folder now or do I need to keep it?
If you are confident you have all your notes synced and working now (including any which previously did not sync properly), then you can delete the extracted folder if you wish
