Hi everyone,
My name is Payel Manna, and I’m a software engineering student interested in open-source development, developer tooling, and AI-powered productivity systems.
I primarily work with JavaScript, Python, React, and Node.js, and I’m currently exploring Joplin’s architecture to understand its shared backend, synchronization system, and plugin ecosystem.
I’m setting up the development environment locally and plan to start contributing through bug fixes, small improvements, and tests to get familiar with the codebase and workflow.
For Google Summer of Code 2026, I’m particularly interested in contributing to areas around AI/ML features, semantic search, and intelligent note retrieval, especially approaches that respect Joplin’s privacy-first philosophy.
Over the next few days before submitting proposal I hope to:
• Contribute fixes or improvements to existing issues
• Participate in discussions around potential features
• Learn more about Joplin’s architecture and testing practices
Looking forward to contributing and learning from the community.
