The Quick Links plugin has an option to allow for the creation of a new note. After typing the link trigger, “@@” and continue typing, the list gets filtered to matches of existing notes… and 2 entries at the bottom of that list… to create a new note or a new task.

Regarding backlinks, the Easy Backlinks plugin provides the ability to display a list of backlinks for the current note.

Thank you so much, Quick Links is definitely very helpful. I also discovered the “Note Link System” plugin which doesn’t appear to be fully working, but it handles backlinks in an interesting way because it lists referrers as a collapsable list that for each refer, shows the block where the link appears. This makes it handy to not only see the link, but to get at least a little context by seeing the text within the block containing the original link. Really hoping this functionality gets picked up by one of the other backlink plugins as it’d be a shame to lose it if Note Link System ever completely breaks.
Thanks again for replying, I think Quick Links was the missing piece for me.
Happy to help!
I initially used the Note Link System plug-in but discovered that when I exported my PKMS to markdown for use with other notes apps (as a test for my “exit strategy” when I need to move on from Joplin) that the links were broken. That was a few years ago so my memory might be fuzzy on what the specific issues were.
After switching to Quick Links, my test exports worked as-is when used in other apps, like Obsidian.
That’s great insight and I’m glad you thought to test the export. I’m dealing with a similar issue right now trying to bring a bunch of notes from Reflect into Joplin. I was excited that Reflect could export data in Markdown, but I’m still struggling to import it in a way that doesn’t break all the internal links. Lesson definitely learned.
