I've just searched all notes for "£", and I'm seeing matches for "-" and "”" (closing double quote).

Can anyone shed light on why that is happening and - more importantly! - how I can stop it happening?

Could you try updating to the latest version. I can't reproduce this problem.

Tried to reproduce since I'm also on Debian 10.6, working fine (Joplin 1.2.6). Then I remembered I have an outdated copy on a test laptop, coincidentally same version as yours (1.1.4). Was able to reproduce your issue on there.

Should be fixed by updating Joplin - be warned if you use custom CSS, it will break between these 2 versions!
