Save PDF to Joplin via print dialog (mac Automator workflow)

Hi, brand new here & pretty new-ish to Joplin.

I'm a pdf hoarder & messed around with Automator today to come up with a quick way to be able to save PDFs to Joplin via the print dialog. No exhaustive testing done, but it's pretty simple & just thought I'd share in case any other hoarders out there might find it useful.

Save PDF to Joplin

Choose File > Print in any application and then choose Save PDF to Joplin from the PDF button menu. This will convert the document to PDF format and import it into Joplin, with a date & time stamped filename (requires Hotfolder plugin).

Workflow file: Save PDF to Joplin.workflow.zip (222.2 KB)

  1. Install Jack Gruber’s Hotfolder plugin
  2. Setup a Hotfolder path in the plugin settings panel
  3. Double-click Save PDF to Joplin.workflow file in Finder & choose Open in Automator
  4. In the 4th step named “Move Finder Items” choose your Joplin Hotfolder directory
  5. Save workflow & close Automator
  6. Double-click Save PDF to Joplin.workflow file in Finder & choose Install
  7. Enjoy your new PDF to Joplin service!
