Restart should … restart the application (desktop)

Desktop Linux. Joplin (all versions).

If you update a plugin, and I think take a couple other actions, you are asked to restart Joplin. The restart though just shuts the application down. It should restart.

Note, other electron-based apps do this successfully—namely, on my system, Signal and Proton Mail—and so, this is not an electron limitation. Anyway, it is a minor annoyance (therefore, I label it a feature request and not a bug), but still an annoyance. Joplin should restart when you request a restart.

Cheers.

I install a plugin...

and nothing restarts...

Same issue !

@steph not sure how what you are saying is any different from what @t0dd already said.

Also this issue came up on a previous post a couple of years ago. Laurent was willing to accept a PR if someone was willing to change the code and test it.

It is not !!! I test at my level everything people say in order to see if I have the same issue.

This issue doesn't happen on MacOS ftr. Linux only.

I believe that the lack of a restart on Linux has been present ever since restarts were first required. Other OSs do restart but as Laurent stated in his post (quoted above), Linux is the exception.

What I have noticed is that the Linux version does not warn you that it needs a manual restart. The odd thing is that it previously did display a dialog box telling you, but it seems that has now been removed. No idea if that was intentionally changed. Seems a bit unhelpful if it was.
