Red dots keep getting insierted in words in documents

You say that the note was hand written but did that include pasting this text in? I ask as the below thread mentions the CodeMirror (Markdown) editor using red dots to indicate non-printing characters, like zero-width spaces and things like that.

What is this red dot?

The red dot might be from the CodeMirror v6 highlightSpecialChars extension. By default, it replaces several invisible characters (e.g. zero-width spaces) with a placeholder. Before the recent updates, Joplin desktop used CodeMirror 5 by default, which may have replaced a different set of special characters.
