Recurrence feature

I love Joplin and have been using it for several years.

In my work, I need tasks to repeat every week. Unfortunately, Joplin does not offer a recurrence feature. To address this limitation, I use the Joplin Repeating Todos plugin. However, this plugin is no longer maintained and seems incompatible with the upcoming version of Joplin 3.4.

Why not integrate this feature directly into Joplin? It seems essential for a note-taking application.

Thank you for your attention.

I bet a good proportion of users, including me, would never use that feature, which is more about task management than note taking imho. Thus this should really stay a non core plugin to prevent bloating the main app.

However I feel you, it's a shame if you rely on it and the dev is leaving and nobody takes over. I hope you can attract some interest and a new dev takes over.

I do this sort of thing quite a bit but I use a calendar to keep track of my schedule rather than notes. There’s lots of different calendar apps out there and some will let you sync your schedule across devices.

I mainly use Joplin to take notes that I can turn into tasks. I don't think this would burden Joplin, especially since there is already the option to add deadlines.

Indeed, there are many possibilities with other programs, but that forces me to enter the information twice. It would be more practical to do it all in one place. Additionally, it depends on how many entries you have; in my case, there are really a lot.

Can I use Joplin's calendar for this?

I hope someone can take over the project. I can help within my capabilities.

That’s a good point IMHO. Joplin (just like Evernote) allows for keeping notes and tasks in one place (in contrast to OneNote, for example, where you depend on Outlook integration for managing tasks). Task management features in Joplin could be enhanced, especially on mobile.

My CalDAV task list (easily accessible via Nextcloud Tasks in my browser, Thunderbird or Apple Reminders) has around 650 items in it. I obviously use it not only for task management, but also for simple note-taking. CalDAV doesn’t feature attached files, Markdown formatting and a number of other things which Joplin has. Nevertheless, I like universal access and the user experience, especially in Apple’s reminders app, which has recurrence and a lot of other useful things for managing tasks that Joplin hasn’t.

So alas, it’s two applications, not just one, for note and task management (at least in my case). It would be a good step forward for usability and daily task management if Joplin for mobile would support swiping gestures.
