Plugin: NoteLLM, use AI and MCP in Joplin!

It’s NOT about using MCP to control Joplin externally. It’s about Using AI and MCP in Joplin.

Introducing NoteLLM – A Lightweight AI Plugin for Joplin, now with MCP.

Since its initial release earlier this year, NoteLLM has gained strong support from the Joplin community. Through dozens of iterations, we’ve continuously improved stability, performance, and user experience.

Today, we’re excited to announce a major breakthrough: native support for MCP ( Model Context Protocol ) tool calling — directly inside Joplin.

This may be the first plugin that enables direct use of MCP tools within Joplin.

With NoteLLM and MCP, your Joplin notes become smarter:

  • Perform intelligent searches inside the editor
  • Query databases or perform math calculations on the fly
  • Insert real-time weather data
  • Validate facts or cross-check information
  • Generate travel plans based on diary entries

And by integrating great MCP tools like Joplin-MCP developed by Shikuz, you can now access Joplin’s API functions — all without writing code. Imagine triggering note operations, tag management, or even RAG-enhanced knowledge retrieval — all invoked through natural language in the editor.

Please try NoteLLM today and unlock the power of AI + MCP in your daily notes. Contributions are welcome!

On desktop, it works very well; but on Joplin mobile, CORS restriction is still a problem. Some MCP tools can't work.

This is a known problem and can not be solved right now. See Fetch CORS Issue on Mobile End - Seeking Solution - #6 by personalizedrefriger
