Plugin: inline tags

Hello,

i left using it. I am using built-in shortcut for tags.

When you enter "#" in editor, inline tag's pop-up comes out.. It could be a header why popup comes out? So popup should only be opened "if a letter comes after #, if there is space it shouldn't show up" you can handle this statement, i know.

Thank you

I don't see a problem with headers. If you want to type # some header you can just type as you would without this plugin:

  • # - the popup comes up
  • space - the popup goes away
  • continue typing the rest of the header

Simplely put, do i have to see an unrelated pop-up when i have an intention to write header? Even if that pop-up would go away after hitting the space bar.

That popup should only appear if a char comes just after it. That is my suggestion.

Thank you..

The reason for showing the popup immediately without waiting for the 1st symbol is that it can show you all your tags whereas in the other case if you typed, say, #a it'd only show the tags starting with "a". I can easily imagine a situation where you don't know the exact tag name and need to look at the list to pick.

Because of this and the fact that you're the first to complain about this behaviour, I'm going to keep the logic as it now, sorry.

Thank you for your feedback about popup, i respect but since i use headings more and it distracts me, i wouldn't use it. What do you think to implementing of Hierarchical Tags? Is it possible in Joplin?

It is certainly possible. There even was an attempt to do this but it had to be reverted because of performance impact.
I'm sure it will be done eventually.

Hi all, not working for me. Is there any possible conflict with other plugins?

I have just 3 tags and I have tried to press the # key. Nothing happens :frowning:

Which editor are you using? The plugin isn't supported for the rich text editor.

rich editor indeed. I understand, that must be it. Hope one day it will be supported as I mostly use that )

Thank you for your reply!

First of all @roman_r_m , thank you very much for this plugin : it's a simple, easy to use but yet powerful plugin, that completely change the way of using Joplin ! It makes tagging so much easier and really enhance Joplin's usefulness.

However, your plugin seems to be case sensitive, when, imho, it shouldn't : if I type "#something", it won't find "#Something" in the tag list. Also it won't add the tag to the note in this case.

Great idea, but... it seems that the use of (#) interferes with markdown language. Since I installed the plugin I haven't been able to use hashtags for titles ands subtittles, so, unless there is a fix for this (or maybe I'm doing something wrong), I will have to uninstall

Tbh I don't see an issue. If you want to add a title you just type as you would without the plugin:

  • type # - the popup appears
  • press space - the popup goes away
  • continue typing the title

Is it not working this way for you?

You are totally right, it works perfectly. Thanks a lot

This is great , i have been looking for something like this .

Hi @roman_r_m , thanks a lot this plugin! I was going to search how to implement tags by typing into the text body of a note. But before I really started searching I stumbled over your plugin. it's simple, easy to use and very convenient to me!

There is only one thing I would like to suggest: please reconsider the capital letter sensitivity. I am one of the migrants from Evernote and have tags with capital initial letters. So the plugin never offers me the "old" tags with capital letters when I - as usual - start typing with a lower case letter. And of course the reverse is also true when I start with an uppercase letter for all lowercase tags.

Thanks for the plugin and thanks for reconsidering!!!

Yes, case insensitive would be really great. Is it possible to add a setting for this?

Thanks for your work. One of my most important plugins.

Hello. What are the advantages of writing tags within the text? What benefits does this plugin provide? I have about 300 tags. It would be nice to understand the logic behind it if it's functional.

Efficiency. I no longer have to click in the tags field. I just type the tag in the note, and the plugin places it in the tags field.

Alright. It's a very simple but equally effective solution. Thanks to you and our developer @roman_r_m

You can do some additional things with inline tags using this recent plugin. The two plugins (the awesome one in this thread and the one linked) can be used together, of course.
