Notebook-tree navigation without the sidebar

Hi all,

I love using Joplin, but navigating nested notebooks is frustrating. When a notebook contains sub-notebooks, clicking it shows only its individual notes, while sub-notebooks remain hidden. This forces users to switch to the sidebar tree for access to subnotebooks, which is extremely inconvenient on mobile (so many extra taps).

I propose:

  • Displaying clickable sub-notebooks alongside the list of notes when opening a parent notebook.

  • Adding a "back" or "parent" item on the top of the list, for smoother navigation through the notebook hierarchy without having to switch back to the sidebar.

This change would reduce unnecessary taps in mobile and make user experience much snappier... And familiar: as it would match folder and file navigation in all operating systems.

Thanks for considering this improvement!

There could be a "View" option "Show subnotebooks in notes list" to toggle on and off.

I also want some kind of change to how notebooks work. Yours is a good one; "my" idea was to handle it like Evernote wherein notes from all subnotebooks are displayed alongside the top-level ones. There'd be an extra column next to the title to tell you which folder each note came from. Joplin actually supports this column already, but it's kinda useless since you can only ever view one notebook's notes at a time!
