What issue do you have?

Hi,
can you please help me out with this issue? I have tried figuring it out on my own with the help of this forum and already existing posts, but I seem to be stuck.
Maybe there is something I am missing and I am not so skilled and experienced with the program and troubleshooting issues like that.

This is what happened and what I have tried so far.
Tonight I noticed only by chance that one of my notes (called: "Serien") was missing. I looked with the search function but couldn't find it anymore.

In the deletion log I finally found out that the note (and as far as I can tell only this note) had indeed been deleted:
These are the last lines of the deletion log:

I did not delete this note on purpose and I don't remember noticing anything unusual.
Usually I am also quite careful syncing and wait until the whole process is finished before I quit the app or do anything else (both on android on my phone and on the desktop).
So I don't really understand how the note could be deleted (and am now also a little bit afraid that this might happen again). This has never happened like this before and I have been using Joplin for quite some time now.

Furthermore, the note is completely lost at the moment - there is no copy of it in the Trash which I don't understand why (the history for notes in the settings is set to 90 days).

I have also set up the backup function so I found some helpful instructions on how to restore a backup creating and using a second profile but unfortunately the backup (and I have only this one since I have set the app to create only one backup automatically) was created exaxtly one minute after the deletion of the note and so the backup doesn't contain the missing note either.
So I am actually wondering if this is only a coincidence or if the missing note and the creation of the backup are maybe somehow connected?

So is there any way of restoring the deleted note?
And is this behavior likely to repeat itself? What can I do to prevent it?

I would be very glad if you could help me out with this!
Let me know if you need any more information.
Thank you!

This 90 days logic unfortunately stops applying as soon as a note is moved to the trash and deleted ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It is a protection against note content change, not note deletion.

That is very unfortunate. If a Joplin dev reads this, the default of 1 backup should really be increased.

Increase the number of backups from 1 to 7.

Only very rarely empty the trash.

Set up a proper continuous backup of your computer data including joplin (On MacOS I use Time Machine).

I feel for you.

AI gives a few suggestions to try, maybe worth it if you are desperate but I doubt they will work: Restoring Deleted Joplin Note via Revisions | Shared Grok Conversation

Oh yes, of course! Thank you! I wasn't thinking straight..or I didn't think about the issue on this level..I do have a working Time Machine set up and could use this backup to retrieve an older version of the Joplin backup and via creating a new profile on Joplin and importing the backup there I could get the note back! Thank you!

I understand now.

Did do that immediately!

Did try the idea with the command palette by the way but you were right, it didn't work, could not find the Item-IDs.

Thanks again for your quick reply and help! :folded_hands:
