I'm not a Joplin core developer, so I don't have much knowledge about the codebase. You could take a look at the open Github issues and check if there is any issue that you understand and want to work on. Or you could develop a plugin. Any suggestions on what plugins could be created? has a lot of suggestions. This might be a good start, since you can code independently and in your own pace.
