Hello all,
the new Joplin "multiple instances" feature is a great addition. Thanks for this!
Now I can use two joplin instances (work and personal) on the same machine.
But how can I distinguish the icons in the windows taskbar? they are identical and I need to click one of them before I know which instances it is related to.
Is there a way to change the icon color? example: green?
I tried to create a link to the exe, changing the icon there but it doesn't work. Joplin still uses his blue icon.
I even tried with the utility resourcehacker (Resource Hacker) but it didn't work either...
TIA
tony
When you let the mouse on the Joplin icon, two different thumbnails (one for each instance) should appears...
Under Linux:
Don't you have them too ?
this happens in windows too.
but only if you keep the two instances on the same desktop.
I usually use a virtual desktop for personal stuff, so, the icons are only one per desktop.
But my question is related to the windows task bar. The icons over there are two, side by side (16x16px) and there is no thumbnail on hovering the mouse on them.
That's why I asked for a way to set a specific icon for every instance.

OK. So when the two instances are already started you can distinguish them like me (see above) but you can't BEFORE starting them because of two similar icons on the taskbar.
I will have a look at windows this week-end about that...
Is this is working for you: ?
in windows is slightly different:
Here you can see the two joplin icons. There is no preview if you hover the mouse over the icons in the task bar.
When joplin is open you can see his icon in the application bar. Here, if you hover the mouse over the icon, you can see the application preview.

Just for the record, what you labeled "application bar" is actually "taskbar", and the area next to the clock is called "system tray" .
At the moment, there is no way to customise those icons though.
I haven't tried this myself, but I just came across this tool that might help (if you're on windows): GitHub - tksh164/aumid-stopgap-tools: The AppUserModelID Stopgap Tools allow you to pin the same application with different parameters and control their grouping on the taskbar.
OK... In fact you want to configure icons of the SYSTEM TRAY (like @tomasz86 told you).

The tools of @bwat47 seems interesting.
Did you try the workaround to have icons in the applications zone in order to start them (instead of using the system tray) ? I'm not under windows at the moment to test it.
By the way, under Kubuntu, we can play with the system tray zone and the applications zone : one click on the icon in the system tray display the main instance and one click on the icon of the applications zone display the secondary instance of Joplin !
