Keyboard shortcut creates new note in Trash notebook

Operating system

Linux

Joplin version

3.0.14

What issue do you have?

On desktop, new editable notes and todos can be created in the Trash notebook with the keyboard shortcut. They adopt regular note context menus, but their Delete note menu item is disabled. Moving them out of Trash doesn't enable Delete note. It only moves them to the ... notebook (which the notebook list doesn't show). I could only delete them using Permanently delete note from the Command Palette.

I could expect note creation to be prevented with a popup saying notes can't be added to the trash. Other expectations include the below:

I haven't been able to reproduce this locally on v3.0.13 (which should be equivalent to v3.0.14). I'm testing by,

  1. opening the trash folder (a different folder was previously selected), and
  2. pressing ctrl-n (this matches the keyboard shortcut listed under the "File" menu).

For me, no new note is created.

Additional information that might be helpful:

  • Was this with ctrl-n (or cmd-n on Mac)?
  • Was the trash notebook automatically-opened on starting Joplin? (Was a different notebook selected first?)
  • To rule out interference by plugins, does this also happen if Joplin is in safe mode?

Thank you for reporting this!

This issue occurs with:

  • New note via Ctrl+N or another keyboard shortcut
  • Any starting notebook
  • All plugins manually disabled

It doesn't occur in safe mode.

I can reproduce this if the Markdown editor is focused.

Edit: Fixed in v3.1.17.
