Since updating to Joplin 3.6 on iOS and macOS, checkboxes in notes no longer work properly.
Before 3.6, notes opened in viewer mode by default. In viewer mode, clicking anywhere on a checkbox line would toggle the checkbox — this worked great, especially on mobile.
After 3.6, viewer mode appears to be gone entirely. Notes now always open in edit mode (both Markdown and Rich Text editor). As a result, you have to tap precisely on the tiny checkbox itself to toggle it. On a mobile device, this is nearly impossible in practice.
This is a significant regression for anyone using Joplin as a todo/checklist tool on mobile. The old behavior was intuitive and worked reliably. The new behavior makes checkboxes essentially unusable on iOS.
Please restore the viewer mode or make checkboxes easier to toggle in edit mode on mobile. As it stands, I am forced to look for an alternative app.
Platform: iOS and macOS
Version: 3.6
Please note, the previous behaviour of opening in view mode on mobile is going to be restored in an upcoming release shortly. But it will be configurable to open in the last editing state, for those who want it
Thank you! I noticed this and was like, uh, I can’t click my link.
