Hi everyone,
First of all, I want to say how much I love Joplin. I've looked for a solution for a long time and it’s one of the rare tools that manages to be both powerful and ethical.
That’s why I’d like to raise a few points that could make collaboration even better:
- Sharing a single note isn’t possible.
Currently, collaboration can only happen at the notebook level. To share one specific note with someone, you have to create a new notebook, move that note into it, and share the whole notebook. This feels cumbersome for something as simple as “share this note.” - Creating a share requires the desktop app.
On mobile, I can view and edit shared notebooks once invited, but I can’t create or manage shares from the app. This breaks the otherwise smooth experience Joplin offers on all platforms. - Practical impact.
For quick collaboration (for example, sharing one note with a colleague) these limitations create unnecessary friction.
Suggestion:
- Allow sharing of individual notes, not only notebooks.
- Add sharing management (create, accept, revoke) directly in the mobile app.
I know Joplin’s architecture is designed around notebooks, but even a simplified per-note share (similar to “publish note,” but with authentication and optional write access) would be a huge quality-of-life improvement.
Thanks for all the work that goes into Joplin. It’s already an amazing project, and these small additions could make it even more versatile for everyday collaboration.
