What issue do you have?

Im new Ive been through plenty of Note taking software and all of them fell short with having general standards for note taking in my opinion. That being said Im trying to learn more about Joplin desktop version for now. Any tips or tricks would help, or even what you should or shouldn't do you know? For example some people say Markdown is better than Rich Text editor? Correct me if I am wrong isn't Joplin made for "Note Taking" on desktop and the android app? But I dont get why Markdown is highly recommended when one standard feature is missing. Example: To change the color of text I had to use the Rich Text editor? Last couple searches I did on how change text color when taking notes in "Markdown Mode" was back in 2021 on these forums? Its 2025 and yet still there is still no simple way to change the text color in "Markdown Mode"? So is Markdown mode not for Note taking? Unless i misunderstood what joplin is for or what tools does anyone have suggestions for alternative?

If colour is important for you then indeed Markdown is not ideal because it's not really supported. You could add it yourself with markup like <span style="color: red;">some red text</span> but it's not user friendly.

I don't know about Markdown being highly recommended but a lot of people like it for its ability to format text in a simple way, without having to deal with the drawbacks of WYSIWYG editors, and in fact a lot of people don't care much about colours. Personally I never had a use for it since I use bold or other markup to make things standout. The Rich Text editor is much better for editing tables though, so I still use it for this.

So it's up to you really - maybe for simpler notes give a try to Markdown and see if that can work for you?
