External editor not saving edits to Joplin

What issue do you have?

I've set up Joplin to use EditPad as an external editor. I can open a Joplin note in EditPad, no problem. When I do and edit the Joplin version, the edit shows up in the EditPad version. But when I edit the EditPad version, the edit does NOT show up in Joplin, even after I manually save the save the EditPad version.

Closing EditPad, quitting/restarting Joplin, and even rebooting the machine don't work either. I only mention these steps because they helped others with similar problems reported in this forum.

How can I get edits from the external editor to show up in Joplin?

I just solved the problem, with help from this clue. I turned off the EditPad setting to make backups. Now when I use EditPad as my external editor, the edits show up in Joplin. They don't show up in real time, but they show up when I save the EditPad file, which is good enough for me.
