When I move data from One note To Joplin I did not go directly into Joplin I followed this path. You can use a tool available for free to export Microsoft OneNote into either markdown or Joplin Raw and one of those might work better than the other for you but I would try the raw version First.
For OneNote → Joplin, I would favor converting the OneNote notebooks to Markdown first, especially if preserving pictures and attachments matters.The key issue is that Joplin doesn't have a strong direct importer for OneNote's native .one/OneNote package formats. A dedicated OneNote-to-Markdown exporter can interpret the OneNote data and produce something Joplin understands well.A good workflow is:OneNote → Markdown + resource/image folders → JoplinThis has several advantages: you can inspect the Markdown before importing it, images can be exported alongside the notes, Joplin imports Markdown natively, and you aren't depending on Joplin to understand Microsoft's proprietary OneNote format. I checked the current options, and for Windows → Joplin, my first choice is OneNote Md Exporter by alxnbl.It is free and open source (GPL) and specifically mentions Joplin as a migration target. The latest release is v1.6.0, and it supports images, attachments, tables, notebook/section hierarchy, internal links, and metadata.An important change to my earlier recommendationBecause you're going specifically to Joplin, I would not actually choose Markdown as the export format from this program.
