What issue do you have?

I thought at first that I could change the menubar with File, Edit View to white text on black by changing CSS. I see now I can’t do that. Google AI proposes running this from a command prompt:

GTK_THEME=Adwaita:dark joplin-desktop

That produces many errors but it also changes that menubar to white text on black as desired. Looks fine. But I also seem to be running Joplin from the command line. I know nothing about the errors it generated. When I ctrl+C out of that command and run Joplin again from the Cinnamon menu, I am back to a menubar of black text on white. Given the small size of the text, this is barely readable for me.

I understand that may be another build where this is part of the Options→Appearance selections? Or is there a way to make the desired change and make it persist?

I really like Joplin but this is becoming a showstopper for me given the issues with my vision. I’m running Ubuntu 22.04 with Cinnamon. Thanks all.

Install a Cinnamon theme on your system with your desired menubar colors for all apps, not just Joplin.

I guess I should have been more clear about this. Cinnamon already has a dark theme and GTK has a dark theme. All apps have dark themes on their menubars except Joplin. I installed the standard Linux Joplin from Snap. I guess I have to uninstall the Snap version and install a different version of Joplin that can detect these settings. But how do I do that?

For Linux Joplin is officially provided using either an AppImage or a DEB file. The recommended method to install Joplin on Linux is to use the installation script. This downloads the AppImage as well as setting up an icon in the program menu. See below for more information and for the script.

Below is a screenshot of the AppImage running on Ubuntu 22.04 set to a dark theme (admittedly this is Gnome...)

That worked great. Thank you all very much. Please consider this solved.
