What issue do you have?

Before maybe reporting to GITHUB...

FIRST EXPERIENCE

This option is off

1. I write a text.
2. I select the text
3. I highlight it
   
   
   
   
   
   
   I go to MD editor:
   
   
   
   The markdown code appears and the highlighting disappears.
   
   

I return to RTE:

. The markdown code for highlighting is still there. The highlighting will never go back...

SECOND EXPERIENCE

This option is on

1. I write a text.
2. I select the text
3. I highlight it
   
   
   
   I go to MD
   
   The highlighting is there all the time...
   
   
   
   
   
   
   
   

IMO, the second experience is normal : we activate an option for the highlighting and we have highlighting.
The first situation (first experience) shouldn't exist. If it's not possible to have a highlighting that stay, the highlight tool should not be able to be used in the RTE... There's no meaning to "betray" the user. In RTE we don't want code we want highlighting !

Yes — I think it would make sense to disable the "highlight" button in the Rich Text Editor if highlighting has been disabled in settings.
