Aws s3 sync error

When attempting to sync with AWS s3 I get the following error:
"SyntaxError: Unexpected token < in JSON at position 2

I'm on windows 10
joplin v.1.5.14 (prod, win32)

On the sync settings page the "check sync config" button confirms that my sync config is valid. I only have a few notes, all of which are only a few lines of markdown

I'm really disappointed in Joplin's S3 sync abilities. Hopefully the team makes this a priority soon as it's the one feature that's holding my team & I from moving to Joplin.
