What issue do you have?

After updating to 3.5.11 every time I open the app I get a fatal error. If I redownload the software and run the installer it opens fine. Close the app and try to reopen it, I get the fatal error again. Should I wait for a newer version, or rollback to the previous version which I've never had an issue with.

@JoplinJoe welcome to the forum.

This error suggests that you are downgrading, not upgrading, your Joplin client in that the expected internal data profile version for Joplin 3.5.11 ("Expected version:") is version 49. However the actual internal data profile version of the data on the disk ("Profile version:") is version 53.

v3.5.11 was released in January 2026 and uses internal data profile version 49. You have used a later version of Joplin at some point on this machine as it has updated the internal data profile version to version 53.

To get a client that can use profile version 53 it needs to be the current latest version (v3.6.16) or a pre-release of v3.7.3 or above.

The fact that v3.5.11 opens after install, but not subsequently, is odd as it should not run at all so there may also be another issue at play here. Do you have both the desktop and portable versions of Joplin on your system?

Thank you,

Strangely I've been reloading 3.6.16 but this is the error it gives me after I close it. I've been using this .exe file to upgrade.

Actually shows I'm running 3.6.16, but the error references the prior version

How many copies of Joplin do you have on your system?

A possible explanation is that when you install v3.6.16 and it asks you after install if you want to run the program you have just installed, it runs v3.6.16. However if the shortcut icon you use to launch Joplin is pointing at a different copy of Joplin (v3.5.11) then you will get the error.

Thank you, had a user only and system version.
