As you probably know, I have been a loyal paying Joplin Cloud customer for some time now, with two teams and four basic accounts.
As you probably also know, sharing notes in Joplin Cloud does not yet work smoothly enough for me to use Joplin Cloud for its intended purposes without any problems.
I would like to have a third Joplin Cloud Teams account for testing purposes without having to pay for this third Joplin Cloud Teams account as well.
Can I get a third Joplin Cloud Teams account for free permanently?
By permanently, I mean until there are no more issues with sharing notes with Basic Accounts.
Would I get a promo code to enter when ordering the third account, or would it be organised differently?
My request for a free third Teams account for testing purposes is very modest in my case. As soon as #11733 is resolved, I would like to be able to carry out some tests in a completely new third Teams account, the results of which will certainly benefit you again.
Therefore, I repeat my request for a free third Teams account in the hope of not receiving an unsatisfactory answer this time.
The thing is that it's not a modest request. Currently there's no safeguards in place for an hypothetical free Teams account, and implementing them would take significant development time.
For example if an attacker manages to access your free account nothing will stop them from adding millions of members to your team and uploading petabytes of data to Joplin Cloud. It's of course unlikely but still a risk and not one that makes sense to take at the moment.
We'll do our best to address the issues you mentioned as soon as possible.
Yes free of charge is the problem. Now what a user can do is restricted because they'd have to pay us for it. If it's free, they can create unlimited members and upload unlimited data - the scenario I described above.
It is a question of who defines your business processes and who implements them in your frontend. Of course, you shouldn't implement it in such a way that anyone can order a free Teams user.
I think that with the ordering process you have implemented today, you should be able to fulfil my request easily and securely for my individual case, without having to change anything in your programming or taking any risks.
After all, you have already implemented the option of a ‘promo code’ in your ordering process.
I imagine a promo code to be issued to me by a member of your business office on a one-time basis with a one-time validity and sent to me in a secure way, e.g. via PM.
I then fill out your existing order form as I always have. I even enter my credit card again.
But – and this is what my question is about – I would also enter this one-time valid promo code from you. This entry should result in you storing a special price of €0.00 in your system for the individual case of my third team account for my team.
Perhaps the person who defined your business processes and implemented them in your frontend can join this discussion?
I bet you can use your existing implementation of e.g. bulk discounts quite simply in such a way that I then have to pay a maximum amount for three teams accounts as I do today for two. You just have to approach my request with a little more customer orientation.
Let's leave it at that.
I read your many technical arguments.
However, I understand from them that you have decided not to give me a special price. It is a question of wanting to, not of being able to. If there was a will, there would also be a way.
