It definitely would! I didn't know that some programs stored their data files in .config, other than the web browsers. I thought it'd be just configuration files. So I've only backed up bookmarks in .config and imagine my surprise when I reinstalled my distro and my notes were gone! I lost about a third of the course notes. It was "only" a third because I had changed note-taking apps (just to try them all out). Sigh.
