Npm ERR! semver.simplifyRange is not a function

I just tried to update the app 1.7.11-2 -> 1.7.11-4 on my 5.4.114-1-MANJARO ($uname -r), but during the update it threw the following error message and I can't proceed:

npm ERR! semver.simplifyRange is not a function

I tried Googling first and I found this, but the proposed resolution didn't help me:

npm ERR! semver.simplifyRange is not a function

Is there any specific requirement I'm missing here?

Toolchain issues: npm 7 causes problems

As of Joplin 2.3 the project uses npm 7. The following post only applies to Joplin < 2.3. In case somebody else experiences problems with building Joplin or running scripts defined in package.json. npm 7.x causes the toolchain to fail. Since downgrading packages is highly discouraged on stable releases of the rolling distros, is there any rough estimate when npm v7 could be available with Joplin?
