Not seeing Items in Joplin Server

Sorry, my post edit was not saved.

  1. I log into my Joplin Server as admin and go to Items.

  2. There are no items there. Which may be correct as admin is not syncing anything to the server?

  3. I log in with my personal account instead (the account I use for syncing). But then there is no Items section available at all.

Questions:

What is the intended purpose of the Items section? Why do admin not see anything there? Should it be possible for regular users to see that section?

I am replying as another user and doing so only from memory.

I believe I did discuss this on the forum with @laurent many years ago. A search may find it.

The "items"section was there for admins and users when Joplin Server was first being developed. I believe that it was there to assist with testing. Later it was removed for users as it did not actually provide any function apart from listing the filenames. For some reason it was retained for admins even though it is possibly not wise to use the admin account for sync. It is a long time since I used an admin account for sync (if there is a problem you cannot promote another user to admin or have more than one admin) but it did show the filenames of its own sync files there.

So to try to answer your questions:

What is the intended purpose of the Items section?

It was included for testing purposes during the development of Joplin Server.

Why do admin not see anything there?

It appears that your admin account is not syncing. Does the client display any errors?
(EDIT) or you are not using the admin account for sync.

Should it be possible for regular users to see that section?

No.

Thanks for looking into this, @dpoulton

I do not use the admin account for syncing and now I understand why there are no items shown for that account, and why there is no items section in non-admin accounts.

Joplin Server has been a huge improvement over Dropbox and Nextcloud sync which I have used before. Thanks again!

Thanks for this post as I thought it was a bug. Joplin Server is a very nice thing and you can still get a lot out of this interface, I would appreciate it if you could bring back the listing option for all users. It's just better to see that the documents have been synchronized.
