Sync and encryption is just not working, I tried it now for days to get it fixed. Is there some one working on this bugs? Can we expect them to be fixed soon? Or is Joplin just dead?
I have been using Joplin on my mac for month. I have aroudn 2000 notes in 20 folders.
I tried to sync that to a mobile android Joplin app - with no iusccerss at all. The notes sync but they dont decrypt. I see the folders on the android as encrypted, I see half of my notes decry^pted but I can not get the app to sync now. everything I do right on andropid app is not showing up in my mac Joplin at all. everythign I write on my mac does show up on my android but encrypted.
I checked and set back passwords 100% sure it is right, I tried so many time... It is unbelievable how buggy that android app is. Sad. When typing in the encryption password: there is no feedback from the andropid app at all - how can you know it is accepted? I see: just try a wring password and try hit "save" - the app then tells you "wrong password" but when you type in the real password : the app shows ne feedback at all. Who thought that would be a good idea?
after trying for 3 full days to make Joplin sync to my android app - I give up now. It is sad but I can not recommend Joplin anymore.
Joplin is definately not dead, it is actively maintained, with official releases every 3 months.
Regarding your issue, when you set the encryption password on the Android app, did you do so before or after you set up the sync? Setting the password before the sync will create an additional encryption key, which may cause issues.
To remedy this, uninstall the Android app, set up the sync before entering your encryption password, and finally only enter the password when prompted via the orange banner at the top
I read this hint (first let it sync fully THEN set your encryption password in android app) before somewhere here and tried it two times already. I synced my whole dropbox and THEN set in the password for encryption.
Which made it seem to work first - it started encrypting notes. But then it stopped halfway. It did never encrypt folder names, just notes. So this is not the fix for the problem.
Why are half of my notes still encrpted? AND: why is the sync working but the encription isn’t? Now, when I create a new note in android app, I see that note after sync in mac-app unencrypted (even the android app shows “encyrption is on") and when I write in the note on mac then, after sync the note is unencrypted in andropid app just showing a lock?
I would love to use joplin but it seems it is not working well. I tried so many times now…. and it seems many have this same exact problem.
This will mean wiping your Joplin data from all your devices and Dropbox though, so before doing so, make sure you have a backup of all data you wish to retain in a decrypted state. You may need to make a jex backup on your Mac and on your phone if the decrypted data is split across devices. Then you will have to manually combine them if that is required
