Compact note list vertically?

I would like to to reduce the space in the note list to compact it vertically.
I've added to userchrome.css this line:
.rli-noteList .list-item-container { height: 1.4em; }

This does compact the list, but then it doesn't scroll properly. It does not reach the bottom of the window and it doesn't show all the notes.

Is there another way to compact this list?

There is an open issue and PR for this but no direct fix for it at this point.
