Clicking insert date button does not replace selected text

So I'm using the markdown editor, Joplin 1.7.11

When I select text and click on the insert date icon, I expect the selected text to be replaced by the date. Instead the date is inserted in front of the selected text.

The behaviour in the WYSIWYG editor is exactly what I expect.

Obviously this is kind of a trivial thing, and may not be fixable since generally with markdown you want things added to the selected text.

If this is something that should be added as an issue in github, please give me some guidance as to where it should go.
