Anyone else unable to attach files? [No Further Replies Required]

Before I start gathering logs and raising a support post - is anyone else using Linux / KDE not able to attach files to notes at all? By that I mean using the toolbar button, drag / drop, cut / paste. It does not error, the file pickers opens and appears to work, just nothing actually happens.

I have not been able to download attachments from notes for quite some time (save as...) but now I cannot even add them.......

Normally I would revert to an older version to compare but although v3.6.16 handles the new sync format it fatally errors because it does not have a "chat panel" (Invalid layout component: chatPanel).

Someone reported they can't drag and drop a note from the note list to a whiteboard, and I think they are on Linux. However it works for me on macOS so I'm wondering if there's indeed something off with the Linux release

I'm able to attach (and sync to mobile) files in various formats (few megabytes each)

For me (XFCE4 and GNOME 50): Both the "attach file" button and drag-and-drop work for attaching files to the Markdown editor.

I'm in the process of installing KDE plasma.

Update: The "Attach file" button also works for me in KDE Plasma 6.6.6 on Ubuntu 26.04:

Possible differences:

  • I'm probably testing on a different architecture: I'm running a custom ARM64 AppImage build of Joplin from this commit.
  • I'm testing using the kde-plasma-desktop package from Ubuntu 26.04's universe repository. It's version 6.6.6, while the latest KDE plasma version is 6.7.

Thank you all for the quick response!

I am on Debian 13.6 with KDE Plasma 6.3.6 & Wayland. Thanks to your help I will concentrate on the distro rather than Joplin.

To anyone reading this thread please only add to this post if you ARE having problems attaching files on Linux.

Initial testing seems to show that the combination of KDE and Wayland is upsetting things (or the versions my distro uses). It looks like there is still a small issue with the KDE file dialog but pretty much everything has gone back to normal just by switching to X11.
