I work with my 8" tablet and my desktop computer. With the tablet in particular I've learned to work in Markdown. Typing with thumbs I can quickly make bullet lists, block quotes, bold, less quickly checklists, and use extensive toc and Headings. I've never been able to take notes and write as easily with any other system. So, using MD is a big win.
On the desktop, I think moving away from tags, and using levels of folders is the biggest improvement over evernote.
The result of these things and a few others, means I use it more.
I started using Evernote years ago. It was the first time I experienced taking notes digitally and access them from different, meaning every, device. I was aware that I wouldn’t trust the company completely. So I did not store any sensitive data with Evernote right from the start. I “only” accepted tracking of meta data.
That changed after the switch to Joplin and after switching to store my notes on cloud space I trust. With Evernote, I took notes every now and then for special topics (it was a perfect storage for my recipes e.g.). Now with Joplin I take notes on a daily basis and on all topics. I try to establish workflows and using to do’s to increase my benefit. And I fritter away some time here on the forum…
[OFFTOPIC Although I have to say that to me start using Joplin is harder than it was starting with Evernote, but it was worth the time I had to invest. I have no developing skills, but I now arranged with Markdown and I arranged with the plug in system. And I’m curious to see what comes next!]
