What issue do you have?

After app restart - I've lost all photos in my markdown documents (those were copy pasted).
The resources folder is empty (C:\Users\xxx\.config\joplin-desktop\resources)

Example of the markdown code that used to work:

![62cfe29f9a12c40497caffc21bf5a643.png](:/bb5e53ee2b24436ea8601deb9556989f)

Which makes me believe there should be bb5e53ee2b24436ea8601deb9556989f file somewhere, but I can't find such (neither 62cfe29f9a12c40497caffc21bf5a643.png) .

I don't have sync enabled - however, I wouldn't expect random nuke of the folder.
The folder was not removed manually.

I'm quite hopeless something can be done with my case, but perhaps this ticket will prevent this to happen to anyone else.

Thanks

Would mind sharing the log in "Help => Export deletion log"? As that might tell us what happened.

Also you may be able to recover the data from your JoplinBackup folder in your home folder.

The deletion log is empty. I'm adding redacted log.
The last time I'm positive that I had images was 2025-05-08 13:00
The first time I realized images are gone is 2025-05-09 9:00

log_redacted.txt (141.4 KB)

Unfortunately the backup folder has no meaningful information

You mean empty ?

No it wasn't empty - there was something (few folders, and few files, one had had a size over few hundreds of kb), which after inspection with hex edior contained notes (or fraction of notes) that I stored in Jopin.
For sure it was not something that could contain images.

Note: If one of the files is a .jex file, then copying the file and changing the file extension to .tar may allow opening it in an external program or extracting its contents..

It was *.jax! But yeah, just from the size and view in hex - looks mostly text files. I'd expect something over 100MiB that would be a true backup

STEPH : Inside your notes that had images is there something visible in the RTE (Rich Text Editor) instead, like this:

STEPH : Have you try to search for all .png in order to see if your images are elsewhere ?

STEPH : You can try a recovery file program like those of EaseUs family (https://www.easeus.com/). I usually have good results with them in the past (not Joplin losts !). There are others.

By the way : there are many "resources" directory on your disk if you have multiple profiles...

Thank you Steph, those files are not placed anywhere on my disc, I've done a full scan. My disc is also encrypted, which makes it harder to retrieve data with data recovery software.
As stated in the beginning - I accepted that files are irreversibly gone, wanted to expose the issue so maybe there is a bug, and fixing it will prevent it to happen to other.

I really appreciated a complete list of solutions from your side!
