Is this phone a SCAM?

Is it Open Source?

No, HMD Secure is not open source. It’s a proprietary solution developed and offered by HMD Global.

I think you need to elaborate because none of what you quoted suggests that it is a scam

HMD Secure has "Secure" in its name, but unfortunately it is not secure at all. There is only one solution, and that is a Pixel device with GrapeheneOS. This is secure washing, nothing more.

It’s an enterprise phone, not a personal device. No IT department is going to roll GrapheneOS into their MDM tooling, you’ve already broken the security model enterprise IT relies on by unlocking the bootloader to begin with, even if you reseal it with different keys. Enterprise trusts Google, not third party ROMs. I’d imagine you’d be reprimanded in most organisations were you to try use GrapheneOS on a work phone.

I don’t think the majority of people here are the intended market, that doesn’t make it a scam.

Windows is secure by the same standards even if it’s not open. A huge part of security is nothing more than trust, and it’s not unreasonable to trust people being paid to manufacture hardware and operating systems over randomers doing it as a hobby. Can you sue GrapheneOS if you had to? You could certainly try with Google, or by extension, a company that actually has a proper legal presence like HMD would.

I wonder if the Joplin app is actually going to be usable on the tiny screen:

Currently, there are already some issues, e.g. with only a very limited number of notebooks visible in the sidebar, and that's on a normal size display .

I did test it on this device and it's actually quite usable. We fixed a few issues due to the small screen size and performances but otherwise there's no major issues. Even the drawing feature works quite well!
