I open new ticket because previus was closed: Home screen
Is it possible to add a start screen layout with shortcut icons to custom notebooks and groups of notebooks?
Or changing the order of notebooks (and list of notebooks)? I think this is a very important feature when having many notebooks and alphabetical order is not enough. I thinking about something like a new discord server list grid.
At this moment when you creating new note you create it in last used notebook what is bad when you using joplin for many purpose. For example:
shoping list
journal
quick notes
Switching betwen notes using this notebook dropdown is AWFUL especially when you have plenty of notebooks (also nested).
So I think this feature is CRUCIAL to implement in joplin android app because all others serious note app for years have something like shortcuts for creating notes in choosen notebooks.
My 2cts. One way to manage having many notebooks is to add numerical prefixes (1, 2, 3…) to their names to control their order and also group them by category and/or current priority. When you currently work on notebooks a, b and c, rename them to “0 a”, “0 b” and “0 c” for a few days to make them easy to access when creating new notes etc. Works for me. I have a good number of notebooks but I don't use nested notebooks though, I prefer a flat structure.
Another suggestion to build some sort of start screen. Create a “start screen” note, and open it frequently (e.g. home note plugin or keep it in your note tabs plugin, store it alone in a dedicated notebook prefixed 000 thus always on top).
In this start screen note, you can use embedded searches (embed search plugin) to display directly the list of notes of relevant notebooks and/or add internal links to separate notes (1 note shows the content of 1 notebook via embedded search).
Great idea but I need something different. I want a way to quick create new note in certain notebook. This approach witch embeed search is not enought because its not possible to create new note.
I checking today and if joplin can handle links like joplin://x-callback-url/createNote it could be achived but without possibility to create new note its not possible to create such dashboard.
If I wanted to quickly create notes in notebooks A B C without ever scrolling my long notebook list, I would experiment with either of the following:
rename A B C to 0_A 0_B 0_C so they are always at the top of the notebook list dropdown after creating a new note
I would install the quicklink plugin then in my home note (aka start screen) which I keep open most of the time (could even be a pinned tab using note tabs plugin) and which has the links to all my important notes, I would add a link to a special note NA in notebook A, also NB B, NC C. Then when I want to create a note in B, I simply click on NB, then type @@ and the name of the new note, which is automatically created in the same notebook (B). I could very quickly create many new notes in B by typing @@ many times. And I can follow the link to any new note I want.
