Server 2.2.8-beta adds some information for the user upon login.

Minor point but the text only makes proper sense if APP_NAME is "Joplin Cloud" (or possibly "Joplin Server" but there's no mention of adding the URL)

I am not a programmer but could it be set that if BASE_URL is "https://joplincloud.com" the text states:

Once the app is installed, open the configuration screen, then the Synchronisation section. In this screen, select "Joplin Cloud" as a synchronisation target and enter your username and password.

If BASE_URL is not the Joplin Cloud URL the text says:

Once the app is installed, open the configuration screen, then the Synchronisation section. In this screen, select "Joplin Server" as a synchronisation target and enter BASE_URL, your username and password.

Yes that makes sense, especially displaying the URL since we have this in the config.

Yes, that's what I meant by putting BASE_URL in the suggested text. The text would actually display the value of the env variable BASE_URL
