Would reference images slow Joplin down in the long run?

Hi,

I'm curious if using reference images, local or url images like so: ![image](url-or-local-link), would slow Joplin in the long run as oppose to using attachments? Are the url references deleted after each session and only downloaded when the user opens the note? And if using references is okay, are local refs better than urls in terms of speed and efficiency?

(I prefer refs over attachments because I want to keep cloud storage to a minimum and I already backup my files to a external hard disk from time to time, but use syncing to make sure text notes are always up to date. most of my notes are text based and don't have images. And finally I use Joplin only on one device so not seeing local refs in other devices is not a problem :slightly_smiling_face: )
