I have updated to 2.1.2 on Firefox 89.02 This is what I get when I try to clip:

I have restarted FireFox. I have restarted Joplin and it is running. I'm on Windows.

Joplin 2.0.11 (prod, win32)
Profile Version: 39
Revision: 981b1d845

Before upgrading to 2.1.2 it worked fine.

Oh, gosh. I just updated. I didn't realize that there was already another important upgrade.

I'm on limited data. Do we know for sure that upgrading to 2.1.x is going to work?

yes! after updating joplin to 2.1.7 the clipper in Chrome works again.

It appears that the newest web clipper doesn't work if I'm still running Joplin 1.8.5. Is that expected?

Yes, for security reasons the clipper now requests permission to access Joplin data, and the old versions of Joplin don't have the API to authorise the clipper so they cannot work.

This happened to me but I DIDN"T CHANGE ANYTHING - has there been some kind of background update againast my wishes?
I generally need to keep my environment very static.

It appears that firefox may have auto-updated the web-clipper - how do I go back to the old one?

click on 1.6.1 - download and install from file. That should do it. And turn off the auto-update in FF

However, keep in mind that when you upgrade the desktop to 2.x you must upgrade the clipper as well!

YES THANK YOU. when I upgrade I will upgrade everything all together and make proper backups etc. first. (I'm not claming there haven't been improvements, I'm saying I only want to take them on my schedule.)

I found the auto update for extensions in firefox and will turn that off.

Apologies for posting, but I can't follow this thread cleanly for the plain answer to this query - When will an updated Firefox web clipper be available in the Firefox extensions library? It's very limiting, to be unable to clip from Firefox.

It's already there. If FF doesn't automatically update it remove it and add it back.

Also make sure you have installed Joplin 2.1.7

Ah the github link! okay thanks, I downloaded the latest from the website, but I think there is a delay before that URL updates. The new version works with the webclipper again.
