Hello!
I’m currently getting to grips with Tables. However, they’re all horizontal tables – in other words, the first row is the header row. I’d like to create a vertical table, where the left-hand column is the header column. (See attached example)
I’ve had a look at the available plugins, but none of them seem to do this. Does anyone have any ideas?
Joplin uses markdown behind the scenes and this type of table isn't supported by markdown
You could use an HTML table (paste the HTML into the markdown editor and then switch to the viewer or rich text editor):
<html lang="en">
<head>
<meta charset="UTF-8">
<title>HTML Table with Left Headers</title>
<style>
table {
border-collapse: collapse;
width: 100%;
font-family: sans-serif;
}
th, td {
border: 1px solid #ddd;
padding: 12px;
}
/* Left-align the header text and give it a distinct background */
th {
background-color: #f4f4f4;
text-align: left;
width: 25%;
}
</style>
</head>
<body>
<table>
<tr>
<th scope="row">First Name</th>
<td>John</td>
<td>Jane</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<th scope="row">Last Name</th>
<td>Doe</td>
<td>Smith</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<th scope="row">Age</th>
<td>30</td>
<td>28</td>
</tr>
</table>
</body>
</html>
However, this wouldn't be editable in the markdown editor's table editor. It would be editable in the rich text editor's table editor, but as soon as you make any change in the rich text editor it would get converted to a normal markdown table with an empty header row.
Hello bwat47!
Thanks for your reply and for the HTML code.
The problem is that I need to create a table with the first column in bold and turn it into a template. That way, I’ll have a sort of form that I can then fill out to create a series of records.
But thanks to your reply, I realized that all I need to do is leave the first row blank and bold the items in the first column using Markdown. And that works perfectly for me.
So thank you!
