Unencrypted md files left in Dropbox after encryption

What issue do you have?

Hi after using Joplin for a while I turned on encryption, on Windows. Let encryption run for a while and it says it's done. Then I looked at my Dropbox/apps/Joplin folder and see that only around half the files are encrypted, and I still have many md files left unencrypted. These seem to be diffs. I guess the unencrypted part is note history?

My note history was set to 730 days, I changed it now to test to 180 days and the number files in Dropbox hasn't changed. Also, I notice these files go back several years, more than the original days value.

Any insights, maybe I misunderstood something? how to safely get rid of unencrypted data in Dropbox? Ideally I'd like to keep old note history, but if we have to delete old history I don't know how to do that safely.

In the desktop version of Joplin, in encryption settings, advanced settings, there is a button there to re-encrypt all data. You need to use that to encrypt the existing data

Thanks, I can try that, will take a few days for a full sync.

I have a feeling the unencrypted files are old leftovers that somehow got stuck.

The unencrypted files are all dated at least 743 days older than the day of encryption, just beyond the 730 day note history limit. In other words my newest unencrypted file is from May 2024, then a 740 day gap, and then the encrypted with this week's date.

Maybe I can simply delete these files from dropbox manually? Or is that a bad idea?
