I'm a long-time Joplin fan. I also really liked Turtl. I used both and used them very differently. Turtl is no longer supported. It hasn't been updated in a decade. I wanted to replicate it, and did, creating a web-based version of it. I started to think and decided to add the ability to sync to a self-hosted Joplin Server. Right now this is the only sync method compatible with Scute.
Fun! Turtl's demise and Obsidian simply not being good enough (and closed source and insecure) … is what lead me to Jopiln in the first place. Interesting leverage of the protocol. Good luck!
This looks very cool! ![]()
I'd never heard of Turtl, so I visited its repo: cobweb for many year. Not a lot of info. Scute's readme has lots of info and I get the ideas. I've only skimmed, but I'm pretty sure I want to install it somewhere.
Not sure about the joplin part though. I have accounts on a couple of residential boxes out of town that I don't have remote access to that are using my webdav on a vps. Now, I have another vps where I could install Scute - even just to have a play about and not use joplin on it. If Scute could (someday) sync to webdav or even another Scute, then a lovely care-free, off site back-up would be happening.
Just babbling. I'm going to go back and read more deeply - I didn't even check what it was written in!
Thanks for your code!
I'm about to push out an update. And I have several plug-ins now for it. They're very specific to my interests, but I'm sure there's someone as weird as me.
Plug-ins:
A3 Problem Solving (not ready for release)
AI Companions (not ready for release)
Family Tree (ready, imports a GEDCOM file)
Fediverse (ready, host your own server, think Mastodon John Mayson (@jcm@jcm.social) )
Flight Cards (ready, track your flights)
Google Keep Import (ready)
Location History (ready, works with OwnTracks)
Photo Albums (ready)
Scute Drive (private cloud drive, not quite ready)
Website Builder (ready https://johnmayson.com )
For the record, Joplin remains my daily driver. This isn't an attempt to hijack users. Scute has morphed into Nextcloud territory on me (my own fault). The fact that I have Scute and Joplin playing together nicely is a win-win in my opinion.
This seems very cool! I never warmed up to own/next cloud for [reasons].
Do you have a demo site?
I self-host on a vps, could I install the docker on localhost or must it be on a public ip?
Also, not applicable to me, but does scute+joplin deal with an encrypted joplin?
Thank you very much for sharing your code with us.

Not really... I hadn't thought of a demo site to be honest. You can see some of the plug-ins in action. If you visit my homepage https://johnmayson.com you can see the website building. Click on photo albums to see those.
Let me see what's involved in creating a demo page.
Here are some screenshots.
Very cool - thank you for posting those. I need to have a play about. I need to install it.
I, finally after 50 years, have a decent taxonomy worked out. My notebooks and sub-notebooks are also the names of the dirs and sub-dirs on my PC. 'file://' works from joplin and I made up a file extension to go the other way. Broadening this out with scute might be even better. IDK yet, thank you.
I've considered something like this. Or perhaps a Joplin plug-in to give access to the file system, similar to how Obsidian works.
