Thank you for this request, it turned into a plugin of its own.

I called it Jot. It does what you described, with or without Cockpit: a small form that creates a note or a to-do with its title. In addition you can write right away a line or two of text, choose the notebook, tags and the due date. Plugin does not open created note/to-do by default. So the note you are reading keeps the focus. It opens from a keyboard shortcut (Ctrl+Shift+J, or Tools › Jot…), from highlighted text in the editor's right-click menu, by typing `++` at the start of a line or after a space, or from a button in the note toolbar.

Not yet implemented in Cockpit, but everything ready for it - editing the name of note/to-do right from the list. Option name: "Edit with Jot…" In the note list's right-click menu opens the same form prefilled with the note's title, type, notebook, tags and due date, and saves only what you changed, without opening the note.

It should show up in Settings › Plugins soon; until then the .jpl is on the releases page: [Releases · pmslava/joplin-plugin-jot · GitHub](https://github.com/pmslava/joplin-plugin-jot/releases) . The desktop is tested, Android not yet.

Cockpit will call it next: The row menu will get a "Quick edit…" entry. Thanks again for the nudge.

It’s really surprising! You are right – independent plugins not only allow for better control over details, but also help to meet the needs of others more effectively. I tend to focus more on the collaboration between multiple functions or plugins in order to achieve a seamless workflow. After trying out the “Jot” plugin, I found that the “Typed trigger” feature is very useful; it fulfills another of my requirements. This was truly impressive, and I appreciate you so much.

I also admire your ability to put ideas into practice efficiently. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and efforts!

@xiaofeng, the last piece of this is done. Cockpit 2.8.0 calls edit commands prepared in Jot.

Right-click New note or New to-do and Jot's form opens with the type chosen and the panel's notebook filled in, so nothing opens in the editor and the row appears in the panel the moment the form saves. A left-click still creates and opens, as before. Both are in settings as well.

The row menu has "Quick edit…", the same form over the row's title, type, notebook, tags and due date. Neither plugin needs the other: without Jot, Cockpit says so once and the button works as it always did.

Nothing changes on mobile, don't see it neccessary there.

2.8.0 is on GitHub now and reaches the plugin list when the registry next refreshes. Thank you for the request: "do not open it" turned into a plugin of its own with a lot of underneath, which is more than I expected when I read your post.

I'm very happy to hear this news. Now Jot has become one of my frequently used plugins. Thank you very much for your support and implementation. It was you who made it possible. I hope it can serve you both. Cockpit is also one of my frequently used plugins. I'm very satisfied with their seamless cooperation. I will update it later. Additionally, I mentioned some suggestions in Jot's post. You can check it out.

Just discovered this, as well as your other plugins Jot, Ridgeline and Whereabouts - pretty neat!

I have a request for the calendar, weekly planner etc. - can you add an option to also display notes on the date they were created, in addition to tasks with due dates?

If it'd be possible to right click a date and create a new note or to do as well, that'd be great!

@eirikbern Thank you for your kind words! They mean a lot to me.

I’d like to clarify a few details so I understand your request correctly:

1. Are you using the **Month Calendar** display format, or would you like this in the **Weekly Planner** as well?

2. When you right-click a date, would you prefer to open Jot with that date prefilled as the to-do’s due date, or create a new to-do directly? For a regular note, how would you expect it to be associated with the selected date, given that its creation date normally reflects when it was actually created?

3. Would you like a **per-profile setting** to show notes on their creation dates alongside to-dos on their due dates?

Thanks again for the suggestions!
