### Operating system

Windows

### Joplin version

2.13.8

### What issue do you have?

When I create new notes, using Shift-Enter for same paragraph, and Enter for new paragraphs, the formatting isn't saved. Instead, everything is saved as though I entered a new paragraph for every single line.

Can I fix this? Is there a setting somewhere I need to specify?
The formatting is driving me crazy... (I can import files correctly, but it doesn't work with manually-entered ones.

From the screenshot, it looks like you might be using plugins. Does it work if you disable them?

(The information from `Help` \> `About` might be useful in debugging this!)

I literally installed Joplin yesterday
Are there default plugins that get installed?
The only thing I did was change it to dark theme

No. Sorry! I confused the time icon (in the screenshot ![screenshot](https://canada1.discourse-cdn.com/flex028/uploads/cozic/original/3X/b/6/b67a4b214caa424420ca09dff422e190048ceea6.png)) for a plugin icon.

* * *

I can reproduce this, if I

1. Create a new note
2. Focus the note body
3. Press enter
4. Then typing. For example,
  1. Type (using shift-enter to create a new line)
  2. Type (using enter to create a new paragraph)
  3. Type (using shift-enter to create a new line)

If I instead type _before_ pressing enter in a new note, it seems to work.

</div>

So I do that, and then
5. I switch out of the note to another one and then
6. Switch back into the note

Same issue.

(I have to do redo the spacing a second time, and then it stays).

Update (Dec. 13, 2023): This is _still_ happening.
Every time I create a new note, I use Shift-Enter to create a new line.
When I switch out of that note, and then go back into it, the Shift-Enter became a new paragraph.

Are you creating a new line just after creating a new note?

If so, try typing something before pressing enter or shift-enter. (For me, the bug only happens when I press enter just after creating a note).

It happens throughout my entire text.
I use Joplin as a journal and put in paragraphs and normal line breaks.

When I finish writing my entry (about 40-50 sentences), _every single line_ shows up as a different paragraph, whether it was shift-enter or enter.
