What issue do you have?

OCR is enabled in Tools. I clicked on a .png image I had pasted to a note and selected View OCR Text. My MS notebook text editing app opened but showed no text. My other .png images work well with OCR but this one, in which the image appears no different to the others, refuses OCR. Any thought on why this should happen?

MAybe the text cannot be recognised on the image? Would you be able to share it?

Unfortunately I can’t share, it’s a medical prescription, typed, not handwritten, the image seems clear.

I’m a newbie to Joplin after decades of Onenote, so I may be asking questions that are obvious to mature users. So here’s my next issue: I accidently deleted the .png image that I could not OCR so selected ‘undo’ in the menu, but the image was not restored. What amI doing wrong?

No it should undo but looks like it's broken. You can use Ctrl+Z though to undo and that works correctly. I've opened an issue for the menu item:

Regarding your image:

  • You can try to restore it from the note history (click on the "i" button in the top right corner)
  • Or go to Tools => Attachments, it might still be there
  • Or restore from Backup using the built-in backup
