Markdown Beta Editor - css class using obscure character

Seeing that what is currently the markdown beta editor will be the default editor in Joplin v3.1.x I decided to see what changes I would need to make to my custom css.

Is there any reason what appears to be a "Greek Small Dotted Lunate Sigma Symbol" (U+037C) is being used for a css class?

To summarize, ͼ marks an unstable auto-generated CodeMirror class. User CSS should target tok-link, cm-url, and other classes that do not start with ͼ.
