Could you please let me know what permissions this addon requires (inside TB), and any other information pertinent to the security of Thunderbird data (which is often sensitive to very sensitive). For the average user it is impossible to know whether a new add-on (not developed and reviewed by Mozilla) "calls home", or does anything else unexpected or unwanted. Reviewing source code is all too often not an option either.
I'd love to test this add-on, great idea !!!

That's not true. Every add-on in the store is reviewed by a Mozilla developer. So is this add-on.

Sure, the permissions are listed in the manifest file and partially documented here. For now they are:

menus to create the menu item
messagesRead to read the opened email message
notifications to display a success/error notification
storage to persist the settings

I know that this is a minor issue, but only mention it if this is easy to fix and only if impact all this plug-in users.
In TB if you select an email and trying to send this email to Joplin using a contextual menu option, TB shows:

a duplicated Joplin option (see the attached screenshot). I confirm this is not a real problem but only mentioned it.

Thanks for the report.

I can't reproduce this issue (with Thunderbird 102.13.0, though). Is it persistent through a reboot and maybe reinstall of the add-on? The code wasn't changed recently, so I guess it's either an install issue or a general Thunderbird issue.

Right, it is persistent after removing/reinstalling the add-on, and reboot it. It is not important, and we can work with it, only mention it as a signal that there is something wrong but, fortunately, it is not affected its functionality.

been a long-time user of Joplin and THunderbird as well, and only today stumbled upon this beautiful fast and efficient plugin! great work and thx for developing this! Installation was a breeze, and since I use GTD / PARA as my organization method, I just direct all relevant mails to a Joplin folder "inbox". This should be a "set & forget" settings. Again, thx for this great plugin!

Could you describe how it's determined if a mail is "relevant" in your use case? Automated forwarding is not implemented in the Thunderbird plugin, but I could check if it's possible/complex to implement.

For forwarding all mails of a mailbox to Joplin, the email plugin (inside Joplin) might be useful.

Currently, with the help of your plugin, I manually decide if an email is relevant enough to be sent to my GTD system when I check my Thunderbird inbox. If it's relevant, I send it via your plugin to a "catch all" Inbox folder in Joplin. That's where I caputure everything (all sorts of "stuff") that get's thrown my way.

I finally started to tame the dumpster fire that is my gmail with the help of Thunderbird, and I'm thinking that this addon could be very beneficial for my workflow moving forward. I am using the beta version of Thunderbird (125) - wondering if there are any plans for the addon to support this version? Thanks!

Not sure, if the info can be a help, but with Windows 10 using Thunderbird 115.9.0 (32-Bit), the addon works as expected with my PC.

Yes, I will test whether the plugin works with Thunderbird 125 next week. Usually it's only modifying the version in the manifest file. I will let you know when the new version is released.

Actually, if you don't mind, you could test the plugin at your machine. Just download it from here and install from local file. You would have the add-on directly installed and I wouldn't have to update to Thunderbird's beta version

Changes:

Add author and user_created_date metadata.
Add support for Thunderbird up to version 127.

With author and user_created_date now available, it's possible to use the Note Overview plugin to show the most recent emails (user request on github). To list the most recent notes with tag email, the following configuration can be used:

Hi. This plugin was working well for me a while ago and is great - many thanks!

On trying to use it today though - for the first time in a while - when I click Joplin Export in Thunderbird on a single email I get the message "Joplin exported succeeded. Exported 0 emails".

I've checked the plugin settings and Joplin and everything seems to be ok. Even tried refreshing the token and reinstalling the plugin - no luck! Also tried on different emails and the same result.

I'm running Windows 10, Thunderbird 115.8.0, Joplin 2.14.20.

Any help would be much appreciated. Many thanks.

Hi,

I also like this extension for Thunderbird, and just confirmed that it's still working properly for me.

The main differences between your config and mine is that I'm running newer versions than you are.

My Thunderbird version is 115.11, not 115.8.

My Joplin version is 2.14.22, not 2.14.20.

Perhaps upgrading your software to the current release will help.

Another thing to consider is that the Thunderbird plugin uses the web clipper plug-in feature of Joplin and I would suggest installing if you haven't already the Joplin extension for your browser and link it to your Joplin app and see if you are capable of taking Web Clips and having them put into Joplin via the Web Clipper Port. The Thunderbird plug-in is using or trying to use the very same port number that the Web Clipper will use. This Will help you troubleshoot.

Thanks. I can confirm the status says 'working' so it's strange. And the webclipper is installed and working fine too. I'll try some updates perhaps, though like I say it was all working fine. Odd.
