I’m requesting assistance with a possible restore of my Joplin Cloud data to a point before April 4, 2025.
I lost approximately 400 pages of notes, likely due to a sync overwrite issue. These notes were synced through Joplin Cloud, and I’m trying to determine whether any server-side backups or snapshots exist that could allow recovery.
Details:
Sync target: Joplin Cloud
Devices: macOS and Android
Requested restore point: Before April 3, 2025
If any form of backup, snapshot, or recovery option exists (even partial), I would greatly appreciate guidance on how to proceed.
I’m happy to provide account verification or any additional details if needed.
I hope someone in the Joplin Cloud team will help you with that.
Just a quick question: as you use a Mac, don't you have Time Machine backups enabled? Do they go far enough? Getting your hands on the daily jex export of the default backup pluglin would be nice here.
I'm very sorry to hear you had another issue with Joplin Cloud sync. If that hasn't put you off using Joplin completely, I'd highly recommend that you set the backup plugin in Joplin to keep at least 30 days of backups.
If you use other sync targets, there is some level of control to self remedy if something happens (if you know what you're doing), but unfortunately you don't get that with Joplin Cloud
I have tried all these which is why I am asking for a server side backup of the notes. I have not used Joplin since this issue but I do want to retrieve my lost memories if possible. Is there a way to get this file as a paying customer of Joplin Cloud?
Is there any chance or getting a server back up from before April 3, 2025? Who do I talk to about this? Is there a central support? @mrjo118 or anyone else
Backups are only available as part of the disaster recovery plan and it is not possible to restore the data of just one person. Based on the above discussion and the lack of personal backup I don't think there's much that can be done unfortunately.
I never needed the personal backup option until the encryption password was implemented. I was using Joplin Cloud to have sync in lots of places. I will move on to another platform as I understand this was mostly my fault and to always have a dbl backup, I trusted the Joplin Cloud service too much. Thank you for the answers and help.
